84th ANNUAL - CHANDLER ROTARY INVITATIONAL

FORMAT

This year, there will be four sessions.  Each session will be seeded by time and there will be no finals for running events. Each heat and flight will be grouped by times. The Friday session will be referred to as the Open Session. Friday evening Relay session will consist of two relays and the ELITE 3200m.  The Saturday morning session will be referred to as the seeded session and will essentially be limited to 32 to 40 athletes per event. The Saturday afternoon/early evening session will be referred to as the Elite session and will be limited to 24 to 32 athletes and the top 16 relay teams. It is possible for an athlete to compete in the Friday session in one event, and compete Saturday in a different event. The seeded 3200m will take place Saturday night during the elite session.

NUMBER OF ENTRIES PER SCHOOL

Each school will be allowed three (3) entries in each individual event (with the exception of Javelin where only two (2) entries are allowed).  Please email Shapdave5@gmail.com with any entry/event questions or requests.   Each school will be allowed one entry in each of the relays.  Check the time schedule to see the number of relays contested per session.    Note - we will attempt to post lane assignments on the various local track and field sites. These will be preliminary and might not be the final draw.  Official lane assignments and positions will be handed out at the coaches’ meeting on Friday and Saturday mornings.

 

Entry marks are based on lifetime best marks recorded on athletic.net.  IF you have a freshman without a mark or an athlete that has a better mark on another platform email Dave Shapiro.  Have the web documentation included in your email.

 

Please only enter athletes you plan on having compete.

 

As a courtesy, every entered athlete will get a personalized BIBB number with their names on them.  The company we use from South Carolina has increased their turnaround time to two weeks. With that being said all entries must be in sooner than normal!  PLEASE ADHERE TO THE DEADLINE:

All entries will be completed by the coach using Athletic.net.  Changes to your entries can be made up until Sunday March 10TH , 11:59pm. Changes are to be emailed only to Dave Shapiro (shapdave5@gmail.com).  IF your team will only compete on Friday, please email us prior to the entry deadline.  IF you plan on attending Saturday only, there is NO guarantee all of your athletes will be entered.  Those NOT making the entry list will be listed as alternates.

 

ENTRY FEE

 

One Gender (only boys or girls competing): $225

Full Team (8+ athletes COMPETING): $450

Small Team (7 or less athletes COMPETING): $225

Out of State Individuals:  $25.00 per athlete entered.

Middle school athlete:  $10.00 Middle school athlete is limited to only the mile race on Saturday. 

 

  • Entry fees will be based upon entries that are set for Saturday, March 16 at 11:59pm.  Any athlete scratched prior to this will NOT be assessed an entry fee. 

  • Alternates in events WILL NOT BE assessed an entry fee.  Any alternate placed into an event on race day will NOT be charged an entry fee.

 

ENTRY FEES MUST BE PAID PRIOR TO PICKING UP TEAM PACKET.  EITHER SCHOOL CHECK, PERSONAL CHECK, CASH, SCHOOL PURCHASE ORDER OR SCHOOL/PERSONAL CREDIT CARD WILL BE ACCEPTED.

AWARDS

ELITE Special Rotary Invitational Awards will be awarded to the top five finishers (including relays in the elite session).  These will be awarded immediately after each race or event.  

 

AWARDS SEEDED The top five in each event will receive medals.  These will be presented after each event has been contested

 

AWARDS RELAY SESSION The top four in each event will receive medals.  These will be presented after each event has been contested.

 

AWARDS  OPEN Medals will be awarded to the top finisher in each sprint and relay race.  Medals will be presented to the top three finishers in each flight of the field events and distance runs.  These races will be seeded straight by time.  The fastest eight will be grouped followed by the next fastest eight etc.  The distance runs and field events will be divided into two, three or four flights/heats based on entries.

 

OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES

An outstanding track and an outstanding field male and female athlete will receive an award as the Most Outstanding Performer of the meet.  Performances can be made at any of the three sessions.  Outstanding Performances are considered from only one SUPERIOR event result.

ADMISSION CHARGE

 

Admission charge for the public will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students with a school ID and seniors.  AIA cards will be the only passes accepted at the gate.  There will be a two-day pass for adults for $15 for sale prior to Saturday’s final day of competition. 

 

Tickets should be purchased in advance at GoFan.co.  Search for Chandler High School and the link for Chandler Rotary.  There is a service charge, charged by GoFan.co.

FIRST AID

A trainer will be on site.  The site for the training table is located at the Northwest end of the field near the bull-pen.  The trainers are there for critical care injuries.  Please tape your own athletes.  There will be a charge of $2.00 per roll of tape, if no tape is provided by the athletes.

 

LANE ASSIGNMENTS

Lane assignments should be drawn and finished by Tuesday night, March 21st by the Meet Directors. You may obtain a copy of lane assignments at the Saturday coach’s meeting when you arrive or Friday at the Athlete Pass Gate. Tentative lane assignments should be posted by Wednesday noon at the Chandler Rotary website at http://www.chandlerrotarytm.com

 

In case of open lanes, original entries will be replaced from the alternate list at the staging area with the Clerk of the Course before the start of the race.  Lane and heat assignments should not be changed from the original entries. Athletes can have other athletes check in with the Clerk of the Course if they are currently engaged in competition.

 

Every alternate, in the past six years, that have reported to the bullpen have been placed into an open lane.

 

QUALIFYING MEET

The Chandler Rotary Invitational will be a certified meet for the Arizona and New Mexico state meets.

REPORT CALL AND STAGING AREA

Contestants will report to the Staging Area when the Staging Area announcer gives the report call.  The call will be given at least 15 minutes before each event.  At this time contestants will be given their hip lane numbers, open lanes will be filled in and instructions given by the Clerk of the Course.  The starters will give no instructions.  If a contestant fails to report at, or by, the last call they will be disqualified from that race.  It is the coach’s responsibility to have their athletes in the staging area at the proper times.  The Staging Area is the old tennis court located in the northwest corner of the facility, under the tents.  It is the athlete’s responsibility to check into the bullpen at the appropriate time. Once checked in the athlete needs to stay in the bullpen.

 

TEAM AREAS

All team members, coaches and managers will stay in the stands or warm up areas.  Officials only will be allowed on the field.  Hurdles will be provided for warm ups.  Each coach will be responsible for keeping his team members in the bleacher areas.  Athletes may warm up on the athletic fields located to the southeast of Austin Field or on the baseball outfield.   All field event competitors who have been eliminated from competition will also be asked to leave the field.  Only current flights of shot put and discus throwers will be allowed on the field.  No team tents or camps shall be set up in the east bleachers.  Please advise athletes that after they are done competing they need to exit the infield.

 

STARTING BLOCKS

Starting blocks will be furnished and set by Chandler High School.  A competitor can provide his or her own blocks.  Chandler High School will not be responsible for those blocks.   

COACH’S MEETING SATURDAY

There will be a coach’s meeting and continental breakfast starting promptly at 8:15am in the gym behind the east bleachers access the gym  from Oakland Street.    There will be no coach’s meeting for Friday's session.

 

​COACH’S HOSPITALITY

There will be a lunch/dinner provided Friday starting approximately at 2:30pm.  A barbeque lunch will take place on Saturday at 2:00 until 4:00pm.  Hospitality room and meals will be served in the gym behind the east bleachers.

 

​WRIST BANDS FOR COACHES AND BIB NUMBERS FOR ATHLETES

All schools will be issued a BIB number and safety pins for each entered athlete.  These numbers must be worn by athletes to get into the stadium without charge.  Coaches will be given wristbands that they also must wear to get into the meet and into coach’s hospitality areas (one wristband for both days).  Coaches need to email Eric Richardson on how many coaches are attending.

PACKET PICK UP FOR BOTH DAYS

 

On Friday packets should be picked up, upon arrival, by the Pass Gate, located on Erie street by the baseball field. On Saturday Packets will be available at the coaches meeting.  Packets will include lane assignments for Friday and Saturday, BIB numbers and coach’s wristbands.  After the athlete pass gate closes, packets will be available at the Northeast entrance, this entrance is located on Oakland Street.

 

Entries for the middle school 1600 will need to pick up their BIBB at the northeast gate any time on Saturday.

FIELD EVENTS

 

All field event competitors will need to check out with event judges prior to reporting for a running event.  Athletes competing in a relay can report to the track.  Keep in mind, it is the team's responsibility to follow all NFHS rules, such as matching uniforms, etc.   In the pole vault, there will be a coach’s box on the infield.  All vaulters will be weighed and poles checked to see if they are of the proper pole weight usage.  Coaches will only be allowed in the roped-off area and can talk to athletes at that spot.

SHOT PUT AND DISCUS

Discus is located southeast of the stadium and south of the swimming pool in the practice fields.  Shot put will be contested on the main field.

 

Shot put and discus rings are concrete.  All implements will need to be weighed at the finish line tent.  Any implement not making legal weight or not passing inspection will be impounded for the duration of the meet.  These implements will be tagged and will need to be collected after the day’s competition is over.

 

POLE VAULT, HIGH JUMP, LONG JUMP AND TRIPLE JUMP

The runways for long jump, triple jump, pole vault and high jump area are of all-weather surface, therefore all jumping events will require soft-soled shoes or track shoes with 1/4-inch spike or less. 

 

JAVELIN

The javelin will be contested at the practice fields south of the swimming pool.  The boys and girls will throw at the venue closest to the pool.  The venue will have a grass runway.

 

New this year:  There will be Javelin competition for Friday.

 

NUMBER OF ATTEMPTS

On Friday, shot, discus, long and triple jump will be given three attempts.  With the shot put and discus, throws two and three will be consecutive.  On Saturday, during the seeded portion of the meet, athletes will be given four attempts. On Saturday evening during the Elite session, athletes will be given three attempts, and the top nine will qualify for finals where they will be given an additional three attempts. Marks will need to exceed the hog lines listed that are posted on the meet website: (every athlete will receive at least one courtesy mark)

 

On Friday night, the pole vault will increase nine (9) inches for the first three height raises. High jump will increase by 3 inches for the first two increases.  Check time schedules for starting heights of the pole vault and high jump.

 

GATORADE: 

Through the continued sponsorship from Gatorade, Quacker Oats and Paramount Marketing there will be free Gatorade for participating athletes.  The Gatorade tent is typically located in the northwest corner of the stadium near the bull pen and training tents.
